Wendy Tucker is a Low Country native who has been in the apartment industry for eighteen years. During her career Wendy has worked for some of the industry’s most highly regarded management companies, such as Summit Properties and Trammell Crow Residential. Wendy joined Greystar in 2005 when the company first emerged in the Charleston market and now oversees a portfolio in both the Charleston and Columbia markets as a Regional Manager. She has earned her NALP and CAM designations through the National Apartment Association, and holds an Associate Degree in Business. Wendy is very involved with the Charleston Apartment Association and has served in numerous capacities on the Board of Directors over the past nine years. Currently Wendy serves as Vice President and chairs the L.E.A.D. (Leadership Experience through Active Development) committee for the Association. In 2010, Wendy was recognized by her peers and other members of the CAA as Regional Manager of the Year. She is also an active participant in both the Charleston Metro and Greater Dorchester County Chambers of Commerce, and volunteers her time at Crisis Ministries.
The Beach Company
Ms. Simpson began her career in the Property Management industry in 1985 in Bowling Green, KY. In 1989 she became a District Manager with Magnolia Management Group, Inc. In addition to managing existing apartment communities and new construction apartment communities in South Carolina, Magnolia Management Group handled commercial properties, homeowner’s associations and single-family homes. Beginning in 1995, Ms. Simpson served as the President and Chief Executive Officer for Magnolia Management Group.
Since joining The Beach Company in 2000, Ms. Simpson has overseen a mixed portfolio of properties as a Senior Portfolio Manager. This portfolio included retail shopping centers, office buildings, industrial buildings and multi-family communities. In this capacity, Ms. Simpson oversees the site teams that operate the day-to-day management of these assets. Currently, Ms. Simpson’s role is to oversee the daily operations of the full portfolio of apartment communities, in two states (GA, and SC), which consists of conventional and affordable type communities. Currently there are two luxury apartment communities newly developed and under lease-up.
Ms. Simpson is a Certified Property Manager (CPM), a national designation thru the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM). Ms. Simpson also holds the South Carolina Property Manager’s license from the South Carolina Real Estate Commission, the Certified Assisted Housing Manager designation, the Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) designation, the Certified Apartment Property Supervisor (CAPS) designation, the Certified Professional of Occupancy (CPO) designation, the Specialist in Housing Credit Management (SHCM) and the Tax Credit Compliance Specialist (TaCCs) designation.
Ms. Simpson is one of the founding members and past Presidents of the Charleston Apartment Association (CAA), which represents approximately 29,000 apartment units in the Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester County areas. Ms. Simpson is a nationally trained and recognized National Apartment Association Education Institute Instructor and is authorized to teach NAA courses throughout the country.
In addition, Ms. Simpson holds the position of Past President of the South Carolina Apartment Association (SCAA), which represents over 90,000 apartment units across the state. Ms. Simpson has served as a delegate for the SCAA and attends national conferences for the National Apartment Association (NAA). During 2002-2004, Ms. Simpson was a member of the NAA Board and served as one of the NAA Regional Vice-Presidents representing region IV, which consists of South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky. She currently sits on various committees and sub-committees for the SCAA and the CAA. Her primary focus, at this point in her career, is related to monitoring legislation affecting the property management industry, and teaching leadership and risk management courses within the state of South Carolina.
Cathy started her career in property management in 1998 at Cape Landing Apartments in Myrtle Beach. She then went on to work on a new lease up in Raleigh, NC. After this was completed, Cathy came back to the low country to work for The Beach Company at Long Grove Apartments for 3 years. Her years in property management were great for her career development, and she was the recipient of Leasing Consultant of the year in 2002 for the Charleston Apartment Association. In 2003, she was hired as an Account Executive for the Charleston Apartment Guide. Since then, she has been promoted twice, most recently as Senior Market Manager, overseeing both the Charleston and Savannah markets. She was elected to the Board of Directors for the Apartment Association in 2003, 2004, and was awarded Member of the Year for both of those years. She also served on CAA’s Board of Directors during the 2008-2009 term. During that time, she was also awarded Charleston Regional Business Journal’s spot on their 40 under Forty list. Cathy enjoys spending time with her daughter.
Nirenblatt & Hoffman
Ellen Hoffman has an impressive background in Property Management and has been an integral part of our association. She is a very dedicated member of the apartment industry on a local, state and national level for over 15 years. Currently, Ellen serves as the Charleston Apartment Association’s Treasurer and is a Delegate to the South Carolina & National Apartment Associations.
Ellen has been involved on many levels including CAA President, SCAA Vice President, Chairperson of the CAA Legislative & Programs Committees, NAA Lyceum Graduate, member of the NAA IROC & BOD Committees. Ellen has been attending the NAA Capital Conference in Washington, DC each year because she believes in the importance of getting our industry’s issues heard by our politicians. She attends the NAA Education Conventions because she desires being better equipped and motivated in Property Management.
Ellen has her NALP, CAM and CAPS designations. She is a licensed Agent with the South Carolina Real Estate Commission. She also holds a BA Degree from Emory University, an MBA Degree from Temple University and post-graduate work at Wharton School of Business. Some of her charitable endeavors include being a member of the Executive Committee of the Leukemia Ball, past participant in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s TNT Marathons, member of the Executive Committee involved in “super-sizing” the Charleston Ronald McDonald House, and is a member of her Home Owners Association.
